A Delhi police constable has been arrested for beating an engineer of MCD in south-east district on Friday. The incident took place when the MCD official, Prakash Kumar, was on inspection duty in Ambedkar Nagar.
During the inspection, he had a heated argument with beat constable Rajender Singh, which turned violent. Singh then started beating Kumar. According to a police official, when Kumar raised an alarm, a few neighbours intervened in the matter and made a PCR call. The police came and took the duo to local police station.
Kumar then sat on a strike with other MCD officials and the police registered a complaint against the cop.
A senior police official had to intervene and the accused was arrested. Only after that the protest ended.
‘Singh has been arrested under Sections 186 [obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions] and 353 [assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty] of Indian Penal Code,’ said a senior police official.
The official added that the MCD official was inspecting the genesis of dengue and malaria door to door when he was stopped by the constable.
