‘Congress waiting for TMC’s decision’

The Trinamool Congress is not dependent on the Congress, rather the Congress is anxiously waiting for its decision on presidential election, a senior minister in the Mamata Banerjee government, Firhad Hakim claimed on Sunday. The two parties - who struck an alliance in West Bengal before the Assembly polls last year - have been trading charges against each other ever since Banerjee refused to support the Congress’s Presidential candidate, finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

‘We are not dependent on Congress, rather the Congress is eagerly waiting for our decision on Presidential poll,’ West Bengal’s Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister, Firhad Hakim said.

Reacting to Congress leader Adhir Choudhury’s criticism of Mamata’s Banerjee’s stance on the presidential candidate, he said that he did not want to react. He also said that Adhir Choudhury is a ‘criminal’ who often took refuge in Kolkata to flee the cops.

‘People know the stature of our leader,' he said.

’The Congress is free to leave the Mamata Banerjee Government if it wants. There will not be any crisis,’ he said, referring to the West Bengal Pradesh Congress’s threat to quit the alliance after Banerjee’s rejection of Pranab Mukherjee’s candidature for President.

Meanwhile, senior Pradesh Congress leaders said that if Banerjee was so confident about her party’s popularity, she could call for fresh Assembly polls in the state. ‘The Municipal polls have proved that the West Bengal Pradesh Congress can go it alone in the state,’ said Abdul Mannan.
