Congress to hold brainstorming session later this month

The session could take place in the Congress-ruled states of either Uttarakhand or Himachal Pradesh.  While the coronation would followed by Rahul Gandhi’s team getting pride of place, an honorable exit is being planned for present president Sonia Gandhi’s team.

In the last Chintan Shivir held in 2012 in Jaipur Rahul Gandhi was made party vice-president. According to well-placed sources, there are plans afoot to accommodate the old guard into a BJP like ‘Margdarshak Mandal’ or advisory body. Those likely to exit from positions of power are Sonia’s confidante and political secretary Ahmed Patel, family loyalist and general secretary Oscar Fernandes and party treasurer Motilal Vora. Party general secretaries Janardhan Dwivedi, BK Hariprasad and Ambika Soni are also likely to be eased out.

A party functionary told Millennium Post that, “after Rahul takes charge, the systems within the party will drastically change. This change will start from both levels - top and bottom. Team Rahul will gradually replace these veterans.”

Young leaders such as Sachin Pilot, RPN Singh, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasada, Sandeep Dikshit, Ajay Maken, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Jitendra Singh of Alwar, Ashok Tanwar,  Sushmita Dev and Gaurav Gogoi are likely to be inducted into Rahul’s core team. The current crop of leaders especially the Members of Parliament however would continue to have their truck with Sonia Gandhi, who would be in the role of party mentor.

Rahul Gandhi as a policy doesn’t meet Members of Parliament as he considers that a prerogative of the leader of Congress Parliamentary Party Sonia Gandhi.

The party has already brought a sea change in the attitude of its front organization. The youth sections of the party which includes the NSUIand IYC have been asked to remain more focused on issue-based agitations than just worry over electoral battles. Another immediate concern for the party is getting its house in order internally before they attack the Narendra Modi-led BJP government.

“The entire culture of inheriting a seat will be demolished. Each person in the core team will have to perform and Rahul has sent out this message to all levels. One major problem we face in the party is the internal differences. For example from Haryana you have three young people like Deepender Singh Hooda, Randeep Singh Surjewala and Ashok Tanwar. They all have to work together as a team,” added a source in the party.
