Congress slams Asaram Bapu

Spiritual leader Asaram Bapu was on Monday reported as saying that the Delhi gangrape victim should have called her attackers ‘brothers’ and recited the Saraswati mantra to avert the tragedy.
His statement has been slammed by the Congress strongly. Reportedly Asaram Bapu said, ‘The victim is as guilty as her rapists.’ While he added that one hand cannot clap. The victim should have ‘begged’ in front of the culprits, he said.
Congress spokesperson P C Chacko said such a comment is atrocious. We condemn his statement and it should be immediately be withdrawn by him. ‘
‘Such comments should be condemned as much as possible,’ said Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit.
On a similar note, another Congress leader Rashid Alvi said,’Political leaders, including religious leaders, must give serious thought before they speak out.’ Speaking to a gathering of followers at Tonk town, some 100 km from Jaipur,Asaram said, ‘The five or six drunken men were not the only ones guilty. The girl was also responsible...’
