Congress shedding crocodile tears on food bill, alleges BJP

Hitting back at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for accusing the opposition of working against the poor by stalling food security bill, BJP on Monday said the ruling party was ‘shedding crocodile tears’ while keeping mum on the issue of corruption.
‘Congress is shedding crocodile tears and is not answering any of the questions on corruption raised by the Opposition,’ BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitaraman said.
She was responding to a question on Gandhi’s charge at a rally here on 18 May that Opposition parties were working against the interest of the poor by disrupting Parliament in recent budget session resulting in non-passage of the National Food Security Bill.
‘I am sad that the opposition is acting against the interests of the poor Indian...I can understand politics.
But I cannot understand political parties hurting the poor of the country,’ Gandhi had told the party rally. Taking a pot-shot at Gandhi, Sitaraman wondered why he never visited Congress-ruled Andhra Pradesh, where three ministers resigned on corruption charges and Supreme Court had issued notice to six other Ministers. Rejecting the charge that opposition parties were responsible for disruption of Parliament, she said, ‘Congress mindset is to treat Opposition as enemies’.
Opposition parties have the right to seek debate on matters concerning national interest and UPA-led by Congress was answerable to the questions raised, she said. Noting that Union ministers she said, ‘If the government had conceded the demand for their (Ashwini Kumar, Pawan Bansal) resignation when the session was on, Parliament would have functioned’.
