Congress leader’s son faces arrest as car hits 2 bikers

Two bikers sustained serious injuries after they were hit by a speeding red beacon car in west Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area. The car was driven by a class 10 student allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The father of the accused is a well-known local Congress leader, Mohammad Shakeel Saifi.

The incident took place on Wednesday at around 10 pm when the accused, identified as Mohammad Faiz (19), was driving a Skoda car reportedly under the influence of alcohol.

While jumping a red-light signal, his over speeding car rammed head-on into a motorcycle on which two persons were riding.

Ranvir Singh, deputy commissioner of police (west) said, ‘After the accident, when Faiz came out to help the victims, the locals started beating him up as he was driving the car after consuming alcohol. The locals, who were identified by Faiz, have broken his teeth.’

The victims, identified as Krishan Pandey and Shiv Kumar, were rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. Doctors at the hospital told police that the condition of the victims remained critical till late Thursday evening.

Singh added that Faiz has been booked under the appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act. He will be arrested soon after he gets discharged from Balaji hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

Father of the accused is the chief of All India Youth-Anti-Terrorism Committee. Saifi’s son was driving a Skoda car with the driving license that was allegedly in the name of Saifi’s friend. As the owner had good relations with Saifi, he had placed a red beacon on his car.

The car has been taken into custody and the owner has been summoned to Nihal Vihar police station.
According to the police, both the victims and the accused used to reside in the same area of Nihal Vihar, but were unknown to each other.

Faiz has failed thrice in Class IX. When Faiz was taken to the hospital, medical examination reportedly confirmed that he was under heavy influence of alcohol.

Two FIRs have been registered in connection with the accident. One has been filed against Faiz and the other case has been lodged against the locals who man-handled him. ‘Investigation is on to nab these locals who have been identified on the basis of Faiz’s description,’ the officer added.
