Congress condemns Railways demolition drive in east Delhi

Condemning the Railways’ demolition drive in Mansarovar Park in east Delhi as ‘unfortunate’ and a ‘great injustice’, Congress has said that it will raise the issue in the coming Assembly session and will also take it up with the Railway Ministry.
About 900 people from close to 150 families have been rendered homeless in the national capital, where the mercury dipped to a chilling 2.4 degrees today, after their makeshift hutments were demolished a day after Christmas by the railway alleging the colony was illegal.
Congress’ Lok Sabha Member of Parliament JP Agarwal from north east Delhi described the drive ‘unfortunate’ and a ‘great injustice’.
‘It’s a great injustice done to these people. We are planning to take that to the Railway Ministry and will see what can be done but it is very painful that in this hour and atmosphere this has been done. It is so very unfortunate,’ Agarwal said. The new DPCC chief Arvinder Singh Lovely who visited the demolition site expressed sympathies for the affected and also called the railway drive as ‘unfortunate’ and raised a question behind its motive.
