On the other hand, senior BJP member Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said that since Friday is reserved for private member bills, no government bill can be tabled in the House on this day.
Opposition leader Harsh Vardhan said that the government has been violating rules and procedures of the House on a regular basis. He further question that if AAP led government was interested in getting the controversial Jan Lokpal Bill passed, then why was the Bill last on the proceeding agenda.
The BJP and Congress members also demanded that lieutenant governor’s letter to the Speaker on the issue of the tabling of the Jan Lokpal Bill be presented in the House. Speaker MS Dhir was, however, reluctant to table the letter.
Lt governor Najeeb Jung on Friday advised Dhir against allowing tabling of the Jan Lokpal Bill by the Aam Aadmi Party government, which said it will not revisit the issue. Jung said the Bill doesn’t have the required clearance for introduction in the House.
Kejriwal, however, introduced the bill amid din in the assembly, but an aggressive Congress and BJP leaders together forced the Speaker to go for voting on the Bill.
In the voting, 42 members voted against the introduction of the Bill, while only 27 MLAs — all AAP leaders — voted for it. Delhi assembly has a total strength of 70.
As it became apparent that the Congress, BJP and Janata Dal-United legislator Shoiab Iqbal and lone independent Rambeer Shokeen will not allow the AAP government to introduce the Bill, Kejriwal and his senior cabinet colleague Manish Sisodia presented two appropriation bills that would empower the government to access funds for expenditure.
Kejriwal then stood up to speak, giving enough indication that he was going to resign when he said that this ‘seems like our last (assembly) session’. He said it was more important to ‘fight corruption than to run a government’.

New Delhi: Family members of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal are attending the proceedings of the Delhi assembly Friday.
The chief minister’s father, mother, wife and his son were seated in the Lt.Governor’s gallery located on the left side of the speaker’s chair. Some Congress and BJP legislators were also seen talking to the chief minister’s son. The Jan Lokpal bill is scheduled to be tabled in the assembly on Friday.
