‘Congestion continues at Delhi-Gurgaon highway’

Traffic snarls and congestion continue on the  Delhi-Gurgaon express highway as the company operating the toll plaza is yet to implement the measures agreed upon with the NHAI.

‘The problem of congestion is still persisting at toll plaza on the Delhi-Gurgaon express highway as the concessionaire failed to implement the measures as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI),’ Minister of State for Road Transport Tushar Chaudhary said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

For the non-compliance of the commitment by the concessionaire, NHAI has already issued a notice to them on 8 March and the concessionaire has filed a petition against the notice before the Delhi high court. The matter is presently sub judice, he said.

On the issue of providing smartcards to the commuters, he said: ‘The facilities of e-tags and flexi smart cards are available for the commuters since the commercial operation or toll collection under the project, but the concessionaire is not promoting the same.’
