Ex-BJP President Nitin Gadkari on Thursday threatened sleuths of the Income Tax Department saying that they will have to face the music when his party comes to power at the Centre and that even Congress President Sonia Gandhi would not be able to save them.
Addressing party workers near city airport, Gadkari who arrived here for the first time after demitting office, on Thursday alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched to defame him.
Stating that Congress is bound to lose power in next general elections, he further said, ‘Congress after controlling CBI is now laying hands on I-T and slapped notices to disturb me. Sonia and Chidambaram (Finance Minister) will not be able to save you (officials).’
Claiming innocence in the Purti case deals, Gadkari alleged that Congress was ‘using IT to corner him’ and said he would ‘expose the Delhi leadership’ soon.
Continuing his tirade against Congress without taking names, Gadkari said, ‘ek malkin baki sab naukar’ (one master and rest of them are servants). On Tuesday, Income-tax department had launched on-field inquiries at around nine locations in Mumbai belonging to alleged shell companies related to Gadkari’s Purti group.
The department has been probing various firms that invested in the leader’s company Purti Power and Sugar Limited (PPSL).
‘I have saved huge public money (government) while carrying out works in Mumbai (Maharashtra) during the Sena-BJP regime and challenged one Congress leader to do so,’ he claimed.
‘Congress was indulging in blackmailing SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and BSP supremo Mayawati by using CBI,’ he alleged. Gadkari said ‘political crisis’ was part of a leader’s life and he was not perturbed by such things.
‘I am doing social work to help poor, farmers in suicide belt and youth in providing employment and will continue to do so,’ he said.
Responding to cheers from the crowd at the airport, which demanded that he contest the next Lok Sabha election from Nagpur, Gadkari said, ‘you (workers) will contest and you will win.’
Maharashtra unit BJP President Sudhir Mungattiwar, city Mayor Anil Sole, party legislators, corporators and party functionaries were present in large numbers here.
Later, Gadkari drove in his open vehicle to his house in Mahal in eastern part of the city.
