Cong will form govt in Har, Maha: Punia

Exuding confidence that his party will form the government in Haryana and Maharashtra, Congress senior leader PL Punia on Thursday said in both the states his party has extensively worked for the welfare of people.

Punia was talking to reporters here after holding a meeting with district officials of Varanasi, Ghazipur, Chandauli and Jaunpur to discuss upon the progress of complaints lodged under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Act.

On coalition with NCP to form the government in Maharashtra, Punia said NCP has been an ally of Congress from a long time, which itself broke the alliance with Congress just a couple of days before assembly elections.

He said Congress has not moved itself to break the alliance, however, if there a need arises in forming a coalition government in Maharastra, Congress can ask for support from NCP.

Punia, who is also a Chairman of Scheduled Caste Commission, brushed aside rumours of rift between Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and party vice president Rahul Gandhi.

He attributed those rumours a creation of BJP and its ideological wing RSS, which was only involved in spreading such baseless things (rumours) that Congress is being divided into team Sonia and team Rahul.

‘There are no such teams which are classified as team Sonia and team Rahul, there is only one team which is called team Congress, where Sonia and Rahul both are their leaders,’ he said.

Punia said that any comments or remarks made by senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh are his ‘personal views and not of the Congress party.’ The Congress leader said that Uttar Pradesh
has the highest number of cases registered under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Acts.

In comparison to other states where population of Dalits are higher like Punjab, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, the complaints under the Schedule Caste Acts have dropped because of raised awareness among people.

He said over a year, the complaints lodged in the country under the Scheduled Caste Act was between 33,000 to 35,000, where cases of physical violence was higher.
