The city BJP on Friday claimed that a group of Muslim clerics has extended support to party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s rally on Sunday and ensured presence of the community members in significant numbers.
Vijay Goel, the president of the city unit of the party, has also alleged that Congressmen are threatening party workers by spreading rumours and government machinery is being misused.
‘We had a meeting of over 30 Muslim clerics from the walled city. They happily extended support to the rally and assured us of their participation along with their followers,’ said Khemchand Sharma, convener of party’s communication cell.
Eminent Muslim cleric Shoib Kasami of Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind was also present.
The party’s minority and communication cells have been assigned the job of bringing maximum possible number of Muslim men and women in the rally on 29 September. The rally is being organised at Swaran Jayanti Park of Rohini popularly known as Japanese Park. ‘We have a target of around 50,000 Muslims men and women in the rally,’ added Sharma. The meeting with thee clerics was to be reportedly organised as a public meeting at Turkman Gate but police did not give the permission so it was held at party office on Friday.
Meanwhile, the party president has alleged that Congress party workers are spreading rumours and threatening party workers. ‘They say to the people that the park is filled with deadly dengue mosquitoes and is unhygienic,’ alleged Goel.
He further added that chief minister Sheila Dikshit is trying to defame the rally by connecting it with rise of dengue cases in the city. ‘Our workers are being threatened against carrying and putting posters and banners,’ he added but claimed that rally would be historic.
