Delhi Congress on Wednesday launched the campaign for the upcoming assembly polls releasing a booklet of achievements of its 15 years rule in the city. Unveiling the document in the presence of Delhi Congress president Jai Prakash Aggrawal and Congress general Secretary Shakeel Ahmad, chief minister Sheila Dikshit said, ‘We have managed to make many of our dreams come true and we are sure that people would give us a chance once again to complete the unfinished agenda.’
Exuding confidence Dikshit said she has faith in people whom she has served for 15 years. The booklet claims that except on the crime front, Delhi was the best governed city in the country. Crime doesn’t come under the purview of Delhi government. Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee has published the booklet in four languages — English, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi and would be used by the MLAs as publicity material.
Among 12 areas of governance, the booklet specially focusses on power, water and food, where it has been under attack from the Opposition.
According to the booklet, government’s sound policies and innovative schemes have led to 24x7 non-erratic and uninterrupted power supply in Delhi. The peak demand during BJP rule (1993-98) was about 2,050 MW, whereas this has increased to 5,645 MW under Congress rule, says the booklet.
‘Power costs in Delhi are lowest in the country, when you compare actual bills across cities,’ claimed the booklet.
On the water front, Dikshit said, ‘Delhi does not have its own perennial water sources. Despite this, Delhi government has ensured adequate water supply. As compared to BJP rule in 1997, water has increased from 580 Million Gallons Daily (MGD) to 835 MGD under the Congress government.
On food security, Dikshit said the government has launched the programme from 1 September. ‘The aim of the government was to reach out to the poorest of the poor, which was never done by the BJP government,’ she said.
According to the booklet, nearly 73 lakh people in Delhi will benefit from the Food Security Scheme in Delhi, of this 32 lakh people across various categories including BPL, ration card holders living in slums and resettlement colonies, will be covered initially, starting from 1 September.
