Cong MLA charges Kejriwal with belittling democratic process

Congress spokesperson and Delhi legislator Mukesh Sharma on Friday accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal of insulting the Constitution and lowering the dignity of legislative institutions.

He also demanded an emergency meeting of the House, that would summon the AAP candidate or issue a warrant to him.

Candidate from the Uttam Nagar assembly constituency, Mukesh Sharma came down heavily on Kejriwal for his statement that the assembly session would be held at Ramlila Grounds on 29 December in the presence of a large number of people to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill.

Sharma said organising assembly sessions at open spaces constituted a grave and serious offence.

He requested the speaker of the Delhi assembly to take appropriate action in the matter so that no one is allowed to make a mockery of ‘the temple of our democracy’.

The Congress candidate said Kejriwal was out to destroy all democratic principles and had initiated a disinformation campaign about his intention to hold the assembly session at Ramlila Grounds.

Kejriwal had trivialised the process of law making and was responsible for belittling, lowering and ridiculing the dignity, prestige and majesty of legislative institutions in general and the assembly of Delhi in particular, the Congressman said.

Sharma has given a notice dated 14 November under Rule 66 of the Rules of Procedure of Business In the Legislative Assembly of Delhi for breach of privilege and contempt of the House.
