The Congress on Friday debunked suggestions from the Samajwadi Party (SP) projecting Mulayam Singh Yadav as the Prime Minister and Rahul Gandhi as his deputy after the next polls, saying no alliance is being planned with that party.
“As of now, the Indian National Congress has no intention of tying up or having any understanding with the SP so the subsequent question does not arise,” said party spokesperson Sushmita Dev.
She was asked about UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s suggestion that an alliance with Congress is possible in an arrangement where Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav is the Prime Minister and Rahul Gandhi his Deputy.
Akhilesh had made the comments in the course of a conversation at an event in the city in the presence of the Congress vice-president. However, Gandhi refused to comment on Akhilesh’s statement.
