Congress councillors lead by leader of opposition in North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), Mahendra Nagpal, demanded a fair inquiry into the suicide of Satyam Yadav, a congress councillor who committed suicide after killing her one-and-half-year-old daughter on 8 November 2012.
BJP councillors were also carrying placards demanding inquiry into the matter and justice for the woman councillor.
‘BJP is playing politics even on the condolence motion of the House. It was pre-planned by the ruling BJP to raise their voice through placards and demanding inquiry in the death of Yadav, the councillor from Nangloi,’ said Goel. ‘If the ruling BJP was serious about raising this issue, it should have done so much earlier. My request to declare a holiday was also ignored,’ added Goel.
However, the meeting of the house was adjourned for the day in respect to the deceased councillor.
Meanwhile, mayor Mira Aggarwal has condemned the act of congress councillors and maintained that the relatives of the deceased councillor had asked for her interference. Both BJP and congress claimed to raise the matter before Lieutenant Governor for non-parliamentary behavior of each other.
