Confusion over poll symbols led to defeat in 2 seats: AAP

The party further said that there are 15 seats where ‘Torch’ was a symbol of the candidate and it was reported that several AAP supporters got confused between these two symbols, which resulted in a division of their votes.

The winning margin here in Janakpuri constituency where AAP candidate Rajesh Rishi got 40,242 votes, while winning candidate of BJP,  Jadish Mukhi got 42,886 votes. At the same time Sanjay Puri, who had the ‘Torch’ symbol, got around 4332 votes and he secured forth position.

Meanwhile in Kalkaji seat the winning candidate of BJP, Harmeet Singh got 30,683 votes and Dharambir Singh of AAP got 28,639 votes. However, at the same time, Dharmender Kumar, an independent candidate with the ‘Torch’ symbol, got 3,092 votes and secured forth position in the constituency.

‘If we would have won this seat then certainly our party would left only one seat behind of BJP’, said Yogendera Yadav, AAP leader.

The party further said that there were 15 independent candidates who finished fourth in the election with this symbol and they got some benefit to having a similar-looking symbol.

‘We are not disappointed with this fact, but it would be better if this factor would not have affected our voters and our candidates should have won these seats’, said a party leader. AAP, a debutant political party, has emerged as the second largest party in the 2013 Delhi assembly elections with 28 seats after the BJP, which has won 31 seats.
