In a meeting with civic agencies, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung, on Wednesday directed concerned officers to complete monsoon preparations and the de-silting process by 15 May.
‘The preparations for monsoon must start in advance so that the government is ready in all respects to tackle all eventualities,’ said Jung to the officers in a high-level meeting, which was attended by secretaries of public works department, finance, irrigation and flood department, Delhi Jal Board and three municipal corporations besides others.
The Lieutenant Governor also instructed Public Works Department officials and municipal commissioners to ensure that their chief engineers and superintendent engineers must continuously monitor and assess the situation on the ground till the end of the monsoon season in September. He instructed departments to assign responsibilities and submit the same to him at the earliest.
‘There must be better intra-departmental coordination between the municipalities, the PWD and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department,’ instructed Jung. He further directed that all control rooms set up by different governmental agencies must be able to address the queries of the respondents, irrespective of whose jurisdiction it falls under. The LG also instructed the departments to build a much better intra-departmental coordination for smooth redressal of queries during the monsoon season.
Earlier, in the day Jung visited Aravali Biodiversity Park developed by Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in collaboration of Centre for Environment Management of Degraded Ecosystems, Delhi University.
