Amity Education Group Founder-President Dr Ashok K Chauhan has said that company secretaries can play an important role in the development of the country and in making India a super power.
Inaugurating the first ever convocation of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (The ICSI) here, he said that a company secretary is a professional who can transform the world. He explained that company secretaries are believed in by the corporate sector, industry, entrepreneurs and the public at large and are the torch-bearers in protection of the interests of shareholders and stakeholders.
Chauhan advised the newly admitted members to think beyond boundaries and emphasised that to reach the height of success, they need to enhance their capabilities and work tirelessly for the growth of both the profession and the country.
Addressing the convocation, The ICSI President Nesar Ahmad spoke about the importance of continuous learning. He advised the young professionals to have a craving for learning with application of knowledge towards professional success in tandem with societal expectations.
Ahmad also informed about the institute’s new initiatives towards the growth and development of the profession.
The ICSI Northern India Regional Council Chairman Rajiv Bajaj, who delivered the welcome address, said that education and opportunities have created unprecedented social and economic mobility. There is a revolution of expectations and surge of aspiration in an increasingly young India, he added.
He reiterated that while there should be pride in successes, there is also a need to be conscious of the challenges ahead. He advised young professionals to consistently develop their physical, emotional, psychological and mental levels.
The ICSI Vice President S N Ananthasubrmanian said that young company secretaries are looked upon as effective transformers of the profession by learning from, listening about, experiencing from and foreseeing the changing environment. Noting that that learning requires time and effort as well as a strong urge, he observed that the emerging global scenario and the internet have shrunk the world to a global village and that young company secretaries must offer value added services and re-engineer themselves to exceed the expectations of stakeholders.
The ICSI Secretary & CEO N K Jain, emphasised that the perception of business towards company secretaries has been changing as the portfolio of the profession has expanded beyond company law. He advised young professionals to keep pace with the increased technological advancements, respond to the speed of change and innovation, meet with rising quality standards, satisfy accelerated demands and above all perform exceeding expectations.
