There was a lot of hindrance in the movement of the vehicles attending the rally as well as pedestrian movement, the roads adjacent to Ramlila maidan remained chock-a-block during the time of rally.
‘Shanti Van, Rajghat, Delhi Gate, JLN Marg, Kamla Market, Ajmeri gate, Minto road, ITO and Paharganj had major traffic snarls due to the rally,’ said a traffic official.
‘I faced such a heavy traffic today, near Kamla Market area, for about half an hour, I had to reach my destination late,’ said Anil Srivastav, a commuter.
‘There was almost a 3-km long traffic jam in the ITO due to the rally that was beyond traffic police’s control. It took me around two-and-half hour to reach work. Usually it takes only half-an-hour. My morning schedule for office was disturbed which affected my work efficiency,’ said Rajiv Shukla.
Commuters heading towards New Delhi Railway station also faced a difficult time commuting. ‘I missed my train which was scheduled at 11.30 am from NDLS,’ said a commuter. ‘No autos were willing to take me because of the rally,’ said another commuter.
‘I had just left for home from Minto Road and have been stuck in front of Delhi gate for the last 30 minutes on Ring Road,’ said Manish Arora, an executive, heading towards Chandni Chowk.
The metro was overcrowded since noon, and many were persuaded to opt for auto-rickshaws. Commuters faced severe inconvenience.
