Commodity futures trading Bill may be passed in Budget session: thomas

A Bill to develop the commodities futures market may be passed in the forthcoming Budget session of Parliament, Food and Consumer Affairs Minister K V Thomas said here on Friday.

‘I believe the Forward Contract Regulation Act (FCRA) Bill will be passed in the coming session of Parliament,’ the Minister said while addressing an Assocham event on the commodity futures market.

‘There are apprehensions about futures trade that it is leading to price rise in commodities. But a number of studies have indicated there is no evidence to prove it,’ he added. The FCRA Amendment Bill, 2010 aims at developing the commodities futures market by arming the regulator Forward Markets Commission (FMC) with financial autonomy and facilitating the entry of institutional investors, among others.
