Owing to the enthusiasm Delhiites have for kites the three day festival which started from January 14 witnessed huge crowds from all parts of Delhi and concluded on January 16.
The colourful extravaganza which was organised by Delhi Tourism, remained a hit among visitors as they witnessed some of the most unique kites ever.
Delhi International Kite Festival provided visitors a perfect opportunity to unwind and witness kites of all shapes and sizes which adorned the skyline of Delhi. An Exhibition hall on the History of Kites enlightened visitors about this age old art.
This stall had Kites of different sizes varying from one square inch to 70 square inch and kites made of tissue paper, elastic paper, Bamboo, cloth and much more on display.
The main attraction of this year’s festival were night kite flying with sparkling LED kites and long kite trails which had more than a hundred kites.
The three day festival had magic shows every day and cultural programmes every evening, with qawwali performance by Mohd Idris and musical performance by Ravinder Grewa.
A special kite making demonstration was organised where professional kite flyers showcased their expertise and demonstrated the art of kite making.
Along with mehndi artists, candy floss makers, biscope machines, caricature artists, tattoo artist, balloon artist and longman, the Festival had foreign participants from Germany, Korea, USA, China, Thailand, Ukraine, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Netherlands & Malaysia. There were Indian kite flyers who came from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Jaipur, Chennai, Kerala, Punjab & Delhi.
Spirit of Delhi soared high in this one of a kind annual festival whose sole purpose is to revive the age old fading patangbaazi tradition.
