Cocaine haul: Police zero in on 3 suspects

Three days after apprehending a Peruvian man with the finest quality cocaine worth around Rs 6.5 crore in the international market, Delhi Police is yet to get hold of the man named Ali, who was about to receive the nearly 1.3 kg consignment in Delhi.

The police are now trying to track three particular persons, all named Ali, whose names had earlier emerged during investigation of cases regarding Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, pursued both by Delhi Police and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), said a police source.

He further said that the first shortlisted Ali is reportedly a Kerala-based person, residing in Kuwait, who often comes to India if the consignments are big. However, he is mainly known for the trade of heroin and has been an active part of several drug cartels, which use the Golden Crescent route.

The second shortlisted Ali is a name that has often emerged during investigation of drugs cases that originate from Meerut. He is reportedly known to be an alleged kingpin in trade of ganja. However, the police did not disclose details about the third shortlisted Ali, who is suspected to be from Delhi.

His name had emerged a few times during the tracking of the blooming rave party circuit in Delhi-NCR (mostly reported in Gurgaon).

Also, two different teams have been sent to Mumbai and Kolkata — where the same 64-year-old Peruvian man had reportedly visited earlier in the past few months. “The police are checking where the Peruvian man was putting up and who he had contacted in the two cities. We are also looking for the name of Ali there,” said a senior official, confirming that the police are suspecting insider role at the boarding point of the Emirates flight (EK 262) in Sao Paulo (Brazil).

Language has also proved to be a big obstacle in the investigation of this case. During interrogation (conducted with the help of an interpreter), the Peruvian man reportedly told the police that the alleged international cocaine syndicate is being run by one Juan. Meanwhile, NCB had come across the name of one Joel, during the investigation of the Rs 50 crore cocaine haul.
