coastal pleasures

Zambar has always been one of my most favourite restaurants in Delhi. The obsession started with this incredible prawns that a colleague had ordered in for a party and it continued with the aappams and the mutton stew.

It was a terrible day for us foodies when the outlet at Vasant Kunj’s Ambience Mall shut and decided to shift shop miles away to Gurgaon but then they opened up a little alternative in Defence Colony and all happiness was restored.

With a very casual dining cafe ambience, the 28 seater Zambar on the Moon  is a rare amalgam of the old world charm of forgotten grandmother’s recipes with a very suave setting at the chic Moon River store. A great little welcome drink of coconut water with honey and lime got us started. We were very keen to keep the little bottles!

We started off with yummy baby idlis, tangy Andhra potatoes and spicy mushrooms which we loved. The non-vegetarian starters got us some great prawns, the famous Chicken 65 and mutton and fish.
The main course was a delicious spread of Achammas Lamb Curry, Chicken Chettinad, Malabar vegetable stew, aappams and malabar paranthas. We absolutely loved the Achammas Lamb Curry and we suggest you definitely try it when you go to Zambar.

Dessert was kesari bhath, litchi kheer and an incredible coconut and jaggery pudding that gets all the thumbs up from us and completely stole the show. Another must try from the Zambar kitchens.
As we happily ended the meal with the filter coffee we were already planning when to come back next!

A meal for two comes to about Rs 1600 (without taxes). These guys don’t have a bar but the other Zambar outlets do so meals there might just be a little costlier than at Zambar on the Moon. If you love coastal food, don’t miss out on
these guys.
