Coalgate suspect attends CBI chief’s family function uninvited

The wedding reception of Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) director Ranjit Sinha’s daughter saw the presence of former coal minister Santosh Bagrodia, a suspect in the coal scam. However, the agency distanced itself by clarifying that Bagrodia reached there uninvited.
When asked about the presence of Bagrodia at the 19 July ceremony, Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) officials said he was not formally invited, but as per tradition the guest was not turned away. The former Minister reportedly spent considerable time at the function which was held at the official residence of the CBI Director, sources said.
The reception saw the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the new Chief Justice of India P. Sathasivam along with other political leaders and senior officials.
Bagrodia has been questioned by CBI in connection with Coalgate and may figure in its charge sheet, the sources said. His brother Satish Bagrodia’s name has come in the chopper scam amongst 13 other accused for criminal conspiracy.
The CBI in its one of the FIR’s has referred to Santosh Bagrodia’s name. In their FIR against AMR Iron and Steel pvt ltd the agency has alleged that a meeting (with Abhijeet Group’s Jayaswals, accused in this case) had taken place in the chamber of the then minister of state for coal Santosh Bagrodia.
