Coalgate: Plea in SC seeking PM’s affidavit

The matter of prime minister's statement on allocation of coal blocks to Hindalco has reached the Supreme Court, with an advocate seeking court's direction to prime minister Manmohan Singh to file an affidavit on FIR lodged against industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla and former coal secretary PC Parakh. The apex court is monitoring the coal scam case probe by CBI.
After CBI lodged the latest case in the Coalgate against Kumar Mangalam Birla and Parakh, and Parakh wanting PM Singh also to be made an accused saying he knew the allocation, the PMO had on 19 October defended the decision as appropriate and said the Prime Minister had approved it on the basis of ‘merits’ of the case placed before him.
