Coalgate: CBI gets fresh set of files

The CBI on Monday received a fresh tranche of files and documents from the coal ministry and began examining them as part of its probe in the coal block allocation scam. The CBI sources said the latest set of documents came in late on Monday evening and the scrutiny of the new lot has also started.

Further, they said only after analysing the documents would they be able to ascertain the number of files which still remain to be made available by the coal ministry. Nearly 150 files and documents were supposed to be received by the CBI from the ministry.

Earlier in the day, a coal ministry official said a report, along with several documents and files, had been despatched to the CBI, but declined to disclose the contents citing confidentiality. While hearing the case on 29 August, the SC had directed the CBI to give a list of documents, files and information sought by it within five days to the coal ministry which, in turn, was ordered to furnish them within two weeks.

Asked when the ministry would file a complaint on missing files, the official said, ‘We will take action in accordance with the directions of the SC.’
