CM meets Prabhu, focusses on optimum utilisation of Ring Rail

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday met Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and discussed various issue ranging from focusing on more utilisation of Ring Rail to constructions of Railway’s overbridge and underpasses in the national Capital.

In the meeting, issue of rehabilitations of jhuggi dwellers currently living on Railway land was also discussed between both the leaders.

“The Ring Rail of Delhi has a good infrastructure which is as of now not being utilised completely. We have discussed with the Railway Minister on how to utilise it more so that most people use Ring Rail network,” Kejriwal told reporters after meeting Prabhu. Kejriwal was accompanied by Delhi PWD Minister Satyendar Jain and Transport Minister Gopal Rai. The nearly 35 km-long circular rail network in the national capital was introduced in 1975 and has 21 stations. Around 3,700 passengers take the line daily, including many office-goers living in the neighbouring states.

A team of Railway and Delhi government will work on more utilisation of the Ring Rail network. In December last year, Rai had met Prabhu on the issue of increasing frequency of trains on the Ring Railway to shift the passenger load towards the service, days before the implementation of even-odd scheme on January 1.

The Delhi Chief Minister said that apart from that, the issue of Railway overbridges and underpasses as permission for constructing them takes a lot of time as of now was also discussed.
