Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit along with union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of the 200-bed Ambedkar Hospital in Dakshinpuri.
Speaking on the occasion, Dikshit said that the 41st hospital of the Delhi government would cater to the needs of south Delhi. ‘There is only one Delhi government hospital named Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital at Malviya Nagar which is presently catering to a large number of colonies in south Delhi,’ she said.
Ambedkar Nagar (Dakshinpuri) is one of the most important upcoming areas of south Delhi which has a mixed rural and urban population. A large number of people from the poorer sections of the society live here.
This 200-bed hospital will be a secondary level multi-specialty hospital. Once ready it will provide services such as OPD, IPD,
Emergency and OT facilities in the clinical disciplines of medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology.
Around 100 beds will be dedicated to maternal and child care
services. The project is fully funded under National Rural Health Mission.
