Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a signal-free corridor from Mukarba Chowk to
Wazirabad Chowk at Outer Ring Road.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 633 crore. The 8-km long corridor would have flyovers at Bhalaswa Chowk, Mukundpur Chowk, Burari Chowk and Jagatpur Chowk. It also includes widening and redevelopment of the surface road.
The commissioning of the comprehensive scheme to make Vikaspuri-Wazirabad sections of the Outer Ring Road signal-free with a number of flyovers and elevated road would cost Rs 2,200 crore. The corridor from Mukarba Chowk to Wazirabad is part of the comprehensive redevelopment scheme.
‘The commissioning of the scheme would prove to be a boon for Delhi and other neighbouring states as vehicles and commuters coming from nearby colonies and villages, as well as from other states have been facing longer traffic jams,’ Dikshit said.
