CM Kejriwal hits out at PM over arrest of its MLA

He also alleged the BJP governments in Gujarat and Centre are following the same pattern by sending opponents to jail and next year Gujarat results could surprise everyone.

“Just in – Modi ji arrests one more AAP MLA,” said Kejriwal in a tweet soon after Khan was arrested by Delhi police for allegedly trying to murder a woman. He further said, “It is shameful that Modi has diverted entire police from protecting women to arresting his political opponents,”. Kejriwal also alleged that Delhi police is not arresting culprits in the sexual harassment case and abetment to suicide case of AAP worker Soni Mishra. “Why is Modi’s police not arresting perpetrators of crime against women?,” he added. Senior AAP leader Ashutosh alleged that Amanatullah was not even allowed to wear slippers while arresting  and all the CCTV cameras were turned towards ceiling by the police.

Khan was first detained for questioning and then arrested on Sunday, a day after he alleged in a press conference that the complainant was ‘pressurised’ by police to give a false statement against him.

He is the 10th AAP lawmaker arrested since the party swept to power in February 2015. The 35-year-old woman, a resident of Jamia Nagar in Khan’s constituency Okhla, had on July 20 complained to the police alleging that the MLA threatened to kill her when she went to his house to complain about frequent power cuts in the area. He wanted her to ‘stop politicising the matter’.

Two days later, in her statement before a magistrate, she alleged that a car, in which the lawmaker was sitting, tried to run her over while she was returning home. Rejecting the charges against the lawmaker, Kejriwal party had on Saturday released a video alleging that she was acting on the directions of the police and the BJP. After Khan’s arrest, scores of AAP supporters staged a protest outside the Jamia Nagar police station seeking his release. A huge traffic jam was reported for hours in the area as protestors blocked the roads.

Drawing a comparison of misuse of power between BJP governments in Gujarat and Centre, Kejriwal said, “ Anandiben Patel sends Patidars in false cases in jail in Gujarat while Modi is sending

Delhiites to jail in false cases. Delhi and Gujarat will now fight untidily,’ said Kejriwal making his electoral strategy clear for Gujarat. “Modi’s continued silence on dalit attacks proves that these attacks are taking place with active support from top BJP leadership,” he added.

MLA Amanatullah Khan, was on Sunday sent to one day’s police custody by a court here.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ashok Kumar sent the Okhla MLA, who was produced in court, on police remand after Delhi Police sought his custody for investigation into the complaint.
