CM attacks Centre on Land Bill

He said that the Modi government is anti-farmers and only for the super-rich. However, the suicide incident overshadowed the rally with Kejriwal and other AAP leaders on stage, trying to bring the situation to normalcy.

“I am sad that he climbed the tree in front of us but nobody tried to stop him,” said Kejriwal.

He said: “A year ago, the people of India voted for the Modi-government with a lot of hope and trust. What happened in one year that the farmers are suddenly feeling that the Narendra Modi government is against them?”

He alleged that the Central government has “betrayed” the trust of farmers, whose votes brought the BJP to power.

Kejriwal said that his party would unite the farmers of India on three issues. “We won’t allow land to be taken without their consent, we will ensure 50 per cent profit on produce and adequate compensation for farmers.” The AAP chief further said that his party would fight against the Land Acquisition Bill that makes it easier to acquire land for industrial and infrastructure projects.

Meanwhile, thousands of people gathered at Jantar Mantar to protest against what they called the Anti-farmer Bill. AAP said that farmers from Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Odisha, Bundelkhand and the Poorvanchal belt of Uttar Pradesh are participating in the rally to protest against the Bill.

Referring to the Swaminathan Committee report, Kejriwal said that he has already asked the chief secretary to check if the recommendations can be implemented in the national Capital. AAP called off the march to Parliament, which was in session, after being denied police permission.

“If Rajasthan government had provided adequate compensation, he would not have taken the extreme step. We kept asking the police to bring him down. Police may not be in our control but at least there should be a semblance of humanity among them,” Kejriwal said.

Meanwhile, contractual teachers held a parallel demonstration at the same venue against the Land Bill at Jantar Mantar demanding permanent teaching posts. The teachers were protesting against the Delhi government.
