CM asks Metro to expedite work

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday asked Delhi Metro to speed up construction of its longest Mukandpur-Yamuna Vihar line, saying it will decongest the Ring Road in a major way.

‘This is going to be the longest route of Delhi Metro in the city. It would benefit lakhs of people by connecting several colonies and making their travel more comfortable, smooth and fast,’ Dikshit while addressing a gathering during the district wise eight-day Bhagidari Workshop at Talkatora Stadium here.

Stressing that several infrastructure projects like construction of Signature bridge at Wazirabad, should be completed at the earliest, she said work on the bridge was on and its two carriage ways have been opened to traffic. The Chief Minister said she would be visiting the bridge construction site as the main carriage way over Yamuna was yet to take shape.

Apart from Minister for Power, Food and Civil Supplies Haroon Yusuf and MLAs Kunwar Karan Singh and Rajesh Jain, representatives of resident welfare associations from North districts were also present and submitted their suggestions.

Dikshit assured the RWA representatives that their suggestions would get 'due consideration' and action taken on them would be reported within 15 days.

The Chief Minister also said government would give priority to development projects in the Walled City.
