With an eye on the assembly election to be held in the national capital in the month of November, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit approved a number of key projects and schemes related to the water supply in the city.
The chief minister cleared the projects while chairing the 112th meeting of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Thursday.
‘The projects approved broadly aim at improving the operational efficiency of the Delhi Jal Board by replacing/renovating old infrastructure and improving environmental conditions in the city by extending sewerage to unsewered areas,’ a DJB spokesperson said.
According to a senior DJB official, ‘The board approved the construction of a six million litres capacity underground reservoir (UGR) and a booster pumping station (BPS) with peripheral water mains at Mahipalpur village in order to extend the filter water supply services to villages of Mahipalpur, Rangpuri and DDA pockets of Sultan Garhi and Nangal Dewat. The project is estimated to cost Rs18.01 crore.’
The board, also, approved a 12.04 million litre capacity UGR and BPS in Mayapuri along with feeder water mains to be built at an approximate cost of Rs 32.46 crore. The work for construction of UGR and BPS in Mangolpur Kalan Village was also approved at a total estimated cost of Rs 5.03 crore.
After surveying, planning and creating the sewerage master plan, DJB has taken up the work of providing sewerage services to the unsewered areas at the earliest. In order to provide sewerage facilities to the Okhla water treatment plant catchment area, DJB has approved the work of laying of internal and peripheral sewer lines in Batla House sub-drainage zone (Phase-I) at a total estimated cost of Rs 52.78 crore. Work of laying HDPE internal sewer line in Pul Prahladpur, Vishwakarma Colony, Chungi No.3 and Lal Kuan that is likely to cost Rs 25.04 crore was also approved.
The meeting also gave its go-ahead to the work of laying of sewer lines in villages/unauthorised colonies of Mehrauli, Chhatarpur and Lado Sarai which will cost around Rs 40.56 crore.
To improve the environment and social conditions in unsewered areas of Saibaba Enclave, Laxmi Garden, Najafgarh Extension (under Najafgarh Constituency), DJB approved the work of laying the sewer lines in these areas at an approximate cost of Rs 16.84 crore.
So far, sewerage lines have been laid in 100 authorised colonies and work is in progress in another 150 colonies. DJB in its meeting on Thursday has cleared work in another 60 colonies so that the department can achieve its target of laying sewerage lines in 350 unauthorised colonies by 2014-2015.
