Ahead of the assembly polls in November this year, Delhi government announced a bonanza for those living in unauthorised colonies. The government has decided to give people a substantial relief in sewer development charges. The relief will apply to those living in D to H category colonies.
While briefing the media after the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Dikshit said the move will encourage residents of unauthorised colonies to apply for sewer connections, ensure cleanliness and provide a healthy ambience.
‘The Delhi government decided to grant a substantial relief in sewer development charges to the residents of unauthorised colonies falling under categories D to H.’ Dikshit said.
‘The new charges would be on the basis of plot size instead of existing per square metre. It was decided earlier that the Delhi Jal Baord (DJB) would charge Rs 494 per square metre of the plotted area while granting sewer connections in unauthorised colonies,’ she added.
Dikshit said the residents are not coming forward to take sewer connections since they feel the charges to be unaffordable and find the procedure of getting sewer connections cumbersome.
