Cloud bursts in Uttarakhand, four missing

The closing day of the month witnessed incessant rain, landslides and cloudburst in many parts of this hill state. Last night in Kapkot tehsil of Bageshwar district in Kumaon mandal, cloudburst and landslides resulted in the collapse of two houses and one building partially destroyed in village Bumsera.

According to DM B S Manral of Bageshwar district, four persons are buried under debris, while the rescue team is continuously removing debris with the help of four JCB machines. Many cattle like goats, cows and calves are also buried under the debris.

The rescue operation is on full swing in the disaster-hit village. Many senior officials, including MLA also visited the spot and directed the rescue and relief operations.

Geeta Joshi, in-charge District Information Officer (DIO) of Bageshwar informed that food and other essential items like blankets and medicines have been provided to the affected families. She added that four persons are missing on account of natural calamity.

In another report from Rudraprayag district, SDM Ajay Arora was swept away in Mandakini river while returning from Kedarnath shrine to the base camp at 3:20 pm there on Wednesday.

The joint search team of NDRF and local police are searching for his whereabouts on war footing. He was posted there for rescue and relief operations by state government.
