‘Climate change challenge towards agriculture’

Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Radha Mohan Singh has said that climate change is emerging as new challenges for agriculture and food security. “Farmers are facing multiple problems as draught and heavy rain. Fluctuation in temperature not only affects agriculture but it also lessens the chances of crop production,” Singh said.

The minister also asked agriculture scientists to develop climate compatible varieties of seeds and crops. “Today India has emerged as foodgrain exporter because of the constant and dedicated efforts of scientists of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and agriculture universities. It’s due to scientists’ efforts that India has been included in 15 exporter countries in the field of agriculture produce like cotton, rice, meat oilseeds and sugar,” Singh said, while addressing VCs of agriculture varsities and ICAR directors in New Delhi.
