Clicking for the children

On the occasion of World Photography Day, leading child rights NGO, CRY- Child Rights and You organised a photography workshop for underprivileged children.

The workshop was a part of CRY’s Click Rights campaign which is a national citizen photojournalism campaign aimed at pictorially highlighting the barriers to education still faced by 8,150,618 children in India. With the advent of the national general elections early next year, CRY seeks to motivate citizens – especially first-time voters – to demand accountability from duty bearers on the promises made to children.

CRY will share the pictures collected as evidence in its advocacy efforts at the local and national level.
Children from all CRY projects in Delhi were invited to be a part of this unique workshop. The core idea behind this workshop was to let them capture the thoughts and situations that these children face in their day to day life. Children clicked their barriers and showcased them in the form of pictures.

Select pictures clicked by the children in the photography workshop will be showcased at an exhibition from 25 August at 1 AQ, New Delhi.

The workshop was coordinated by Vicky Roy who is a real-life example of courage and resilience. He ran away from home as child and became a rag picker to earn pocket money. He found refuge at a NGO for street children where he met a photographer that changed his life. Despite his turbulent past, Vicky pursed his passion for photography in which he was selected to photo document the reconstruction of the World Trade Center in NYC.
