Clean & green Kolkata to be priority, vow TMC councillors

The newly elected councillors of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, who took oath on Tuesday, were enthusiastic to meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday.

The councillors from 141 wards are preparing for a new term under twice elected Trinamool Congress Mayor Sovon Chatterjee. “A clean and green Kolkata is our primary objective. Greening is important as all parks of the city will be developed under the new board. Water supply from Tala reservoir is also of primary importance to us, since we don’t want people to depend on tubewells. Improving drinking water supply is one of our main objectives”, said Tapan Dasgupta, a TMC councillor.

Dasgupta expects that the CM will issue guidelines to the councilors as well as MLAs along these lines on Wednesday. MLA Sovondeb Chattopadhyay says the CM is likely to ask the new councillors to be “disciplined” in their work approach. Also, development of Kolkata should be their primary goal.
