Class XI admissions: Different merit lists for different streams

Now, all Central schools of India will give admission to Class XI students from the next session  on the basis of merit list only. Admission will be based on the grades students get in their Class X  examination.

According to sources, ‘This move has been taken by the Central schools to ensure seriousness among students, who want to choose and pursue a particular stream in Class XII. In a big move, pattern of all competitive examinations, such as  Engineering and Medical, are changing. The  schools run by the Central government have decided to change their admission process as  well.’

Sources also said, ‘Students will be admitted on the basis  of grade system and there will be different grades for different streams. For example,  for Science stream,  schools had a 7.6 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). For admission in Science with Maths, the minimum B-1 grade was made compulsory. Apart from this, for admission in Science without Maths, schools alloted B-1 grade along with 7.6 (CGPA).’

‘For admission in Commerce stream, schools alloted minimum 6.4 (CGPA), and for admission in Commerce with Maths, schools alloted B-1 grade in Maths. Apart from this, for admission in Commerce with Economics, minimum 6 CGPA was alloted by the schools. If in a merit list, two students secure the same grade, priority would be given to Maths scorer, and if two or more students get same score in Maths paper, then priority would be given to the student who scored more in Science. Further in case of any confusion, priority would be given to student who is of more age,’ added sources.

Every principal has the authority to admit 40 students in Class XI and those who fail to get admission  will be admitted next year. Student belonging to private schools will also be shortlisted on the basis of the merit system.

For the admission in Class I- VIII in Central schools, the procedure will begin on 8 February and the last date of admissions is 10 March.
