In a shocking incident, a class IX student of Salwan Public School died on Wednesday evening after being thrashed by two juvenile boys in front of a tea kiosk in the main market area of Mayur Vihar phase III in East Delhi . The victim identified as 15 year old Rajat Krishnan Menon had gone out on a scooty with his friends to enjoy a game at a snooker parlour in the market. Rajat’s father, Unnikrishnan Menon is a General Manager in Reliance Telecom while his mother is a home maker.
According to the DCP, Rishi Pal, the juvenile duo have been apprehended and a case under section of 302 has been registered at New Ashok Nagar police station.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 5 pm when Rajat along with his three friends went to the main market area after attending tuition. He had parked his scooty in front of the kiosk. While he was crossing the kiosk, two boys with whom he had got into a minor scuffle some days back, caught hold of the group.
“Few days back, Rajat and his friends had played a prank on the juvenile duo. Enraged over this, the duo caught hold of the boys. They got into a fist-fight where Rajat lost consciousness while his friends managed to flee,” said a senior police officer of East district. Local shopkeepers alleged that the fight between the two group of youngsters was regarding the allegation that one of Rajat’s friend had stolen a cold drink from the tea-stall.
“The boys first thrashed my son. But when one of the other boys in the group pointed towards Rajat, they left the other boys and beat Rajat black and blue,” said the father of one of Rajat’s friends. Locals meanwhile alleged that the two juvenile boys started beating him in front of the tea-stall and then dragged Rajat into a nearby park.
“Seeing that Rajat had collapsed, the juvenile attackers first took him to a private clinic from where the doctors turned them away due to lack of ventilator. Then he was taken to Metro hospital. Here too the doctors refused to treat Rajat. Finally Rajat was taken to the Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital where he was declared brought dead. After leaving him there they allegedly tried to flee from the hospital,” said one of the shopkeepers.
Sources said that the entire incident has been captured in a CCTV camera of a nearby shop. Preliminary police investigation suggests that there were no external injury marks on Rajat’s body. Meanwhile, Rajat’s family has sought a second post-mortem examination.
