Clash of Delhi University entrance examination dates causes worry

Several aspirants of Delhi University’s Four Year Undergraduate Courses (FYUP) have been left in a quandary because the dates of entrance examination for two courses has turned out to be the same.

Not only the date, but also the exam timings for the entrance test for the two courses clash. Entrance examination for Bachelor with Honours in Hindi Patrakarita (journaism) and Bachelors in Elementary Education are scheduled to be held on 23 June between 2 and 5 pm.

Sources on condition of anonymity said several students stand to lose because they had applied for both the courses and the clash of dates will minimise their chances of admissions. ‘In case a student fails to qualify for one of the courses, s/he will not be able to make it to the other course as well,’ sources said.

Meanwhile, students are trying to find a way out of the situation. ‘I have scored 75 per cent in the Class XII and I know Delhi University cannot change the dates of the examination. It will be a great help if the administration could at least reshuffle the timings of the two exams,’ said Zoya, who has applied for both the courses.

‘The timing of our exam is 2pm to 5pm. How can a student appear for both exams at the same time? It is very disappointing for those aspiring to make it to Delhi University under either of these two courses,’ she added. However, officials said there are 300 seats for Bachelor’s in
Elementary Education at DU and around 11,000 students have applied for the course. But nobody complained about the clash of dates. ‘It is too difficult to change the dates at this stage,’ officials said. There are a total of 240 seats for Bachelor with Honours in Hindi Patrakarita across all DU colleges.

The students are now finding it difficult to decide on which exam to sit for.
