CK Sharma granted bail

Retired wing commander C K sharma, accused of embezzlement of fund from the account meant for Defence veterans was granted bail on Tuesday afternoon by the Gurgaon district court.

Sources revealed that Sharma was supposed to get bail on Saturday after the hearing by the duty magistrate but since the Investigating Officer was not informed about the hearing it was postponed to Tuesday.

Since Sharma was arrested on Thursday evening, his anticipatory bail plea did not hold ground and a fresh bail plea application was moved by the council in the Gurgaon court on Friday. The grounds on which the bail plea was approved by the magistrate read: “Why was C K Sharma arrested just 12 hours before the Chandigarh high court was about to order anticipatory bail for the three accused. Secondly, since the matter was nullified in 2014, why was the arrest made? And lastly, Sharma is a heart patient which should be taken into consideration.”

Earlier, C K Sharma was placed in Judicial Custody by the district court on Saturday till March 25 for alleged financial irregularities committed in an organisation for defence veterans and their widows. Even when Sharma was granted bail on Tuesday the magistrate has ordered him to be personally present in the court on March 25. The society’s account is being maintained in a private bank. Sharma held the post of Treasurer for the account.
