The multi-storeyed glass-fronted Civic Centre in the heart of the national capital will come alive with a play of light in the hues of the tricolour on Independence Day.
The North MCD (NDMC) has lined up a laser show at its headquarters, located opposite, among host of other colourful activities like fairs and ‘rahgiri’ to mark August 15.
‘For the first time ever, a laser show by the civic bodies will be organised for the people on the occasion of Independence Day. Our headquarters will turn into a playground of lights by the evening of August 15,’ NDMC public relations officer Yogendra Singh Mann said. ‘An approval in principle has been given by the corporation for hosting the event. We are in the process of finalising the company which will do the job,’ Mann said.
The presentation will start soon after dark in the five- storey annexe that stands next to the towering main building of the Civic Centre. ‘We plan to showcase it for around four hours in the evening. The idea is to catch people’s attention as the site for the display is on the historic Minto Road, opposite the railway station,’ he said. ‘We chose the lower building as it will allow people to see the display more clearly. The display on the taller building would not have been that visible,’ Mann said. Among the other activities planned to mark the 68th Independence Day in the area within its jurisdiction are a ‘mela’ in the historic Ajmal Khan Park in Karol Bagh and a few hours of a ‘rahgiri’ event, now a popular concept of street fete in the national capital region.
