Civic body plans to build ‘trendy’ schools in Delhi

The school buildings of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) would now become more swanky as the corporation has decided to conduct a competition among architects to finalise the design for its new school buildings.

As per the plan, the new school buildings will be based on Building as Learning Assistance (BALA) concept and will have computer rooms, mid-day meal room, appropriate wiring for installing digital learning devices.

‘The school buildings have been constructed on decades’ old designs in a monotonous way without any change. Now, we have decided to conduct a competition among architects and pick the best design for the building as per present requirement,’ said Satish Upadhayay, chairman of Standing Committee of SDMC.

‘The new building must be equipped with all the facilities as well as space for the installation of digital classroom devices like e-blackboard, digital attendance system, computer room, play room and store room,’ added Upadhayay.

He also said, SDMC will be purchasing a health van equipped with audio-visual system to create an awareness  among the students about health hazards.

‘Presently, the corporation has two health vans and is going to purchase two more health vans under its school health scheme,’  he added.

According to him, the corporation has started the process of purchasing text books for the 2013-14 session to avoid last minute rush and thus minimise the sufferings of the students.
