Civic bodies to collect congestion fee on goods vehicles: Govt

The Delhi government has decided to appoint civic agencies as a nodal agency to collect congestion fee imposed by it on goods vehicles entering the national Capital.

In his budget speech, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced that <g data-gr-id="16">government</g> would impose congestion fee on goods vehicles entering Delhi, identifying them as <g data-gr-id="17">major</g> contributor to air pollution in the national Capital.

“Civic body will be asked to collect congestion fee levied on goods vehicles coming to Delhi. For which, <g data-gr-id="18">government</g> will provide <g data-gr-id="19">strong</g> mechanism to <g data-gr-id="20">municipal</g> corporation to effectively implement it,” Sisodia said.

He said that at present, civic bodies collect toll tax through <g data-gr-id="23">manual</g> system due to which there <g data-gr-id="22">are</g> some leakage in toll tax. “We will also give modern technology to civic bodies to check leakage,” the deputy CM also said, adding that <g data-gr-id="21">government</g> will use the amount to augment environment-friendly public transport system in Delhi.
