Civic bodies demand holiday on Chhath puja

Subhash Arya, Leader of the House, SDMC on Monday said that all the three Corporations have passed the resolutions to declare Chhath Puja Day, which falls on 19 November, as holiday in all the offices of municipal corporations, including their institutions. The resolutions have also been sent to the Lt Governor Tejender Khanna (for declaring the Chhath as a holiday since India is a secular state and Delhi has a sizeable population belonging to Poorvanchalis’. He also said that Delhi government should also declare Chhath as a holiday in its offices and institutions. Arya said Chhath is an important festival for Poorvanchalis. He also informed that the corporations will also clean Chhath ghats on Yamuna banks so that worshippers don’t have to face any inconvenience during the puja.
