In the wake of the Lieutenant Governor’s (LG) move to nominate 30 councillors to the three civic bodies, the three municipal corporations have renewed their demand for the appointment of councillors in the board of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Delhi Jal Board (DJB). ‘The government is in a hurry to provide back door entry to its party workers during meetings in the house to deliberately delay the appointment of councillors on the board of DDA and DJB, in order to pursue its autocratic agenda,’ said Mahendra Nagpal, leader of house in North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC).
Nagpal on Tuesday shot off a letter to LG Najeeb Jung demanding immediate appointment of one councilor each from the three municipal corporations on the board of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Delhi Jal Board (DJB). ‘DDA and DJB are working in the areas of the three municipal corporations in the city, therefore one councilor from each corporation must be appointed in its board,’ said Nagpal. As per the provision of DDA Act and DJB Act, two councilors of the erstwhile Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had been appointed as members in the board of DDA to represent the common man.
But after the trifurcation of MCD, the matter was referred to Delhi government and Central government to take a decision. ‘Even after 17 months of trifurcation of MCD, the government has not taken any decision on the issue but hurriedly appointed 10 councillors in each corporation, who have no role but to create chaos in the house,’ he added.
