Beware if you have booked yourself a farmhouse in the national capital for your wedding this season. Civic bodies, equipped with a court order, are planning to launch a drive against farmhouses flouting civic body norms that prescribe certain guidelines for construction. Action will also be taken on farmhouses that are being let out for marriages without a commercial license. The move is sure to spell doom for wedding planners who are known to book these as reception venues for their rich and famous clients. So be it your garden-themed wedding, or pool-side sangeet, both can be in jeopardy if the owner of a farmhouse you have booked is found to be flouting the necessary civic body norms.
Additional district and sessions judge Ashwani Sarpal in his order on Tuesday directed the civic body to seal two farmhouses within 24 hours and also imposed a fine Rs 1,15,000 on them for flouting norms.
The court has also ordered a detailed survey of the farmhouses in the area.
‘The order is applicable to all farmhouses under the jurisdiction of the three municipal corporations and action will be taken against those flouting norms and using their farmhouses as marriage and other social function venues without possessing a commercial license,’ said YS Mann, director, press and information, North and East DMC.
In the order, the court has directed the two farm houses to deposit Rs 50,000 each to the corporation within 15 days.
The two farmhouses- JKS Lawn and Indraprasthan Lawns, situated on Rohtak Road had approached the Appellate Tribunal of MCDÂ five years back when the corporation had sealed their properties, along with six other farmhouses in the area.
The tribunal has also directed action against the concerned architect and sought a police complaint against responsible officers for conniving with farmhouses and destroying records, and a detailed vigilance inquiry by director vigilance into the matter.
The North DMC has 545 farmhouses in Narela zone and 23 farmhouses in Civil Lines zone of which only 23 and two are authorised for holding marriages.
There are over 2,000 farmhouses in the city mostly in south Delhi and Najafgarh area. It is suspected that most of these are let out as venues for marriages and other social functions without having a commercial license.
According to an estimate, a single farmhouse in these area hosts approximately 40-50 marriage functions in a year for which civic bodies charge Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 per function.
The DC Narela zone has also cancelled permission of 14 farmhouses situated along NH-1 and at least 10 farmhouses have been sealed on Rohtak Road.
