City techie’s ‘girlfriend’ to be questioned

Investigators will question a student of Indian Institute of Technology [Kanpur], regarding the death of a Delhi-based software engineer. Sumit Parihar, who went missing on 9 September from his Safdarjung Enclave residence, was found dead on a railway track at Hodal in Palwal of Haryana.
Police checked the call details of Sumit’s phone and found that he used to speak to a girl for hours. The girl hails from Kolkata in West Bengal and is studying at IIT-K.
According to call details, on 1 September, Sumit spoke to the girl for almost three-and-a-half hours. On 2 September, he spoke for five-and-a-half hours, on 7 September for six hours and on 8 September for around eight hours. A single call continued for more than an hour at a stretch, said a police officer.
A Delhi police team will leave for Kanpur to question the girl.
Police have questioned his friends and colleagues and found that Sumit was a simple man and had cordial relations with everyone.
Sumit was identified by his father Devender Parihar on Monday, after Delhi police officials approached Palwal police.
